I think they felt sorry for us, standing out in the rain with our coffee vans, so they invited us to set up cafes inside their buildings!

Rather than just eating her way around New Zealand’s gastronomic delights, she decided to dive headlong into co-ownership of a thriving Wellington cafe. The cafe then turned its hand to coffee roasting and an obsession was born.
When Lou returned to the UK in 2008, back to her beloved West London, she was desperate for a Kiwi-style coffee - so she decided to make it (then sell it) herself. Now with three sites, and more on the horizon, Scotties is West-London's go-to coffee destination.
Much like the pavlova*, there’s debate about whether the flat white originated in New Zealand or Australia. Well, we’re prepared to concede that it started in Australia, but was perfected in New Zealand (Wellington to be specific), where it still reigns supreme.
* Aussies: the pavlova is a Kiwi invention. Sorry about that.
